Brigit’s Bounty Giving Garden

St. Brigit hosts Brigit’s Bounty Giving Garden on its property and participates in outreach through its efforts. Brigit’s Bounty Giving Garden is a part of the non-profit Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources (BBCR), established in 2011, by St. Brigit Church and is a non-profit community service organization that supports the residents of Firestone, Frederick, and Dacono. BBCR works to improve the neighborhoods through community gardening, healthy food access, and educational opportunities for children.

Brigit’s Bounty Giving Garden helps families by providing free vegetables that have been grown locally and organically. The fifty-three raised beds plus the orchard and pumpkin patch provide over a ton of produce each year that is donated through Meals on Wheels and a table set up by the Weld County Food Truck.  The garden also includes a bee hive, six chickens, a children’s garden, a xeriscape garden, herb and perennial beds, and a vineyard.

The garden’s primary focus is working with children to foster an understanding of where food comes from and other hands-on learning through the rewards of gardening.  This is accomplished by mentoring a number of teens in the garden during the summer as well as teaching children at Thunder Valley K-8 as they plant seeds for the garden.  Brigit’s Bounty Giving Garden also hosts low-cost summer camps that serve ninety children per summer.  Brigit’s Bounty is a United Way agency and a proud host of Americorps VISTA workers.

The mission of BBCR is to provide education, training, and resources toward transforming the lives of individuals and strengthening the Carbon Valley community. You can find BBCR’s website by going to brigitsbounty.org.
