WiFi & Water Systems

Wifi Routers

The wifi router for the farmhouse is located in the basement at the bottom of the stairs strapped to the white rack.  If the wifi is not working well in the house, try turning the router off and back on again.

The wifi router in the sanctuary is located in the utility room (in the breezeway, the door to the right of the entrance from the parking lot) above the controls for the boiler.  If the wifi is not working well, try turning the router off and back on again.

Water Systems, Potable Water, Farmhouse and Garden

Main shutoff for the potable water coming into the house and going out to the garden is in the basement of the farmhouse.  It is located on the north wall (on your right as you come down the stairs).

To turn on the potable water going to the garden, first make sure the main shutoff valve is on, and then the valve right above it.  Then go outside the house onto the driveway and locate the water line coming out of the house.  First turn on the valve located on the vertical pipe to pressurize the head.  Then turn on the valve located on the horizontal section of pipe.

Well Water

Well water is controlled by the jumble of pipes located to the east of the fenced in yard.  Two of the pipes are not used, while the third controls the water going to the sprinkler system in the back yard of the house. The system is drained by opening the valve on the third line.  Alternately, the hose can be attached to the drain.  The other two lines are not being used at this time.  One goes to a neighbor’s house and the other ends somewhere on the church property and may be used at a future time for additional irrigation.

Swamp Cooler

There are two swamp coolers at St. Brigit. One is on the roof of the house right above the room off the kitchen (currently being used as the nursery). The swamp cooler controls are on the wall of that room. The second is on the roof of the sanctuary. The controls for that one are on the wall of the sanctuary right next to the controls for the sound system.

Activating and winterizing the swamp coolers

Since the swamp coolers have thin pipes carrying water up the outside of the building, they should not be set up for use until the temperature at night stays above freezing. Getting them ready for use is a matter of connecting the pipe that carries the water to the swamp cooler with the water supply, and turning on the water.

Winterizing the system should occur in the fall before the temperature begins to drop below freezing at night. Winterizing consists of turning off the water supply, disconnecting the pipe that carries water to the swamp cooler, and allowing water to drain out of the pipe.

House – the pipe carrying water to the swamp cooler is connected to the water supply in the basement. Coming down the stairs, go through the door opposite the stairs and make a left, then another left. The pipe is a ¼” copper line that connects up with a saddle valve connected to the house water supply pipe which runs horizontally next to the window. After connecting the fitting, open the screw valve to start the flow of water.

To winterize the system, reverse the process. Close the screw valve and disconnect the ¼” copper line, allowing it to drain into the plastic tub on the windowsill.

Sanctuary – the swamp cooler is located on the roof of the sanctuary. The roof pitch is shallow enough that it is safe to walk on the roof to get to the swamp cooler. Before turning the water on, the line must be connected to the swamp cooler on the roof. To open up the swamp cooler, climb up on the roof and remove the access panel on the west side of the unit by lifting the entire panel ¼” and swinging the bottom of the panel away from the unit. The ¼” copper tube screws into the west side of the unit. To help get the nut tight, reach inside the unit and hold the white plastic piece steady while using a wrench to tighten the nut. After the tube is connected with the side of the swamp cooler, replace the access panel.

The pipe carrying water to the swamp cooler connects to the water supply in the utility room just off of the sanctuary. There are two valves on the line. One opens to allow the system to drain through a pipe that empties into the floor drain. The second opens to send water into the line which goes up to the swamp cooler. To send water up to the swamp cooler, make sure the drain valve is closed and open the valve to the water supply.

To winterize the system, reverse the process.  Close the valve to the water supply and open the drain valve.  Then go up on the roof, remove the access panel, and disconnect the line from the side of the unit.  After disconnecting the line, blow gently into it to help drain the water out.
