Brigit’s Bounty Community Resources (BBCR) will be increasing its harvest, setting up a Community Refrigerator, and constructing a much-needed shed, thanks to grants from the Front Range Episcopal Diocese ($10,000) and United Power ($2,000) as well as pledges for additional matching funds from community supporters (about $10,000, as of November).

This year’s harvest represented the largest in its history: Brigit’s Bounty donated more than 4,000 pounds of produce to various programs, including its Harvest Share, Frederick Meals on Wheels, Weld County Mobile Food Pantry, the Carbon Valley Community Center, and Brigit’s Village. (In the past, Brigit’s Bounty donated between 1,500 and 2,500 pounds of produce annually.) The harvest will increase even more, as a result of expanding the size and numbers of garden plots made possible through these grants and community supporters.

This harvest increase will mean BBCR can continue to donate to various local programs and will also provide produce to a new project: The Community Fridge. Brigit’s Bounty will acquire and maintain a refrigerator that will be stocked with various types of produce and perishable food items. This food that will be accessible to those in need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The model of a Community Refrigerator has been set up in various locations, including Denver, Fort Collins, and Longmont, and offers another way to distribute much-needed food.

BBCR continues to operate through volunteer support. There are no salaried staff.
